The Decision of Breast Augmentation

damon thomas

Today, breast enlargement surgery, otherwise referred to as breast augmentation, is a common procedure. There may be many factors, questions and concerns on your mind. Dr Damon Thomas has the answers that will help you make the right choice for you.

DO YOU HAVE?

  • Concerns with the size or shape your breasts?
  • Sagging breasts after your pregnancy?
  • Breasts that are not in proportion with the rest of your figure?
  • Malaligned, mismatched or asymmetrical breasts?

WHAT HAPPENS BEFORE SURGERY?

Before your breast augmentation procedure takes place, Dr Damon Thomas will conduct a thorough assessment of your breasts and body proportions to ensure that your goals are realistic and achievable. During this initial consultation, all decisions surrounding the surgery will be discussed, options analysed and questions answered.

The number of choices that must be made prior to breast enlargement may feel overwhelming, but Dr Thomas will walk you through each step so you are comfortable with your options. He will explain the difference between implant types, sizes, shapes, projection, implant placement and incision placement. You and Dr Thomas will create a customised surgical plan for you, depending on your needs and aesthetic goals.

All these variables are options that make your breast augmentation unique to you and your body. Through a thorough discussion of your needs and wants with Dr Thomas during your consultation, he will be able to tailor your procedure to your expectations.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING SURGERY?

Performed under general anaesthesia, many patients are permitted to return home the same day as their breast augmentation procedure. Some may prefer an overnight stay, however. The decision is up to you, the complexity of your procedure and your individual recovery process.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER SURGERY?

After your breast augmentation has been completed, you will need to wear a surgical bra to hold the breasts in a stable and protected position during your recovery period. Medications will be prescribed to alleviate discomfort during the early days of your recovery. Dr Thomas will advise you to refrain from strenuous physical activity and contact sports for the first few weeks after surgery.

Every recovery process is unique, and during your initial consultation, recovery will be discussed in detail so you have an idea of what to expect and how to prepare for your recuperation.

MAKING AN INFORMED DECISION

Our website is intended to provide general information about breast augmentation and should not be used as a substitute for personalised medical advice. It is important to consult with a qualified plastic surgeon to determine if breast augmentation is the right procedure for you. The following considerations should be part of your decision-making process.

Risks

All surgical procedures carry risk. The potential risks and complications associated with breast augmentation include, but are not limited to, bleeding, infection, changes in nipple or breast sensation, implant rupture or leakage, asymmetry, poor scarring and the need for additional surgery. It is important to understand the risks involved and weigh up the benefits and drawbacks of surgery before undergoing breast augmentation.

Recovery

Recovery time after breast augmentation may vary depending on the individual, the extent of the procedure, and the type of implant used. In general, patients should be prepared to experience some discomfort, swelling, and bruising after surgery. Patients must also be prepared to take time off work and other activities (including exercise) and follow Dr Thomas’ post-operative instructions to promote proper healing and minimise the risk of complications.

Results

Individual results may vary depending on a number of factors, including the patient’s natural breast tissue, the size and type of implant used, and the surgical technique employed. It is critical to have realistic expectations about the outcome of breast augmentation and understand that each patient’s outcome will be unique. It is also important to know that breast implants are not lifetime devices and may require replacement in the future.
