No two breast surgeries are alike. Depending on your individual situation, we tailor-make a procedure to suit you.

However, for decision purposes, we thought we would describe our most popular breast surgery procedures so you can figure out which one is the right fit for you. A consultation with Dr Damon Thomas is recommended to find out which procedure is suited for your needs.

BREAST ENLARGEMENT:

A Breast Enlargement otherwise referred to as a ‘Breast Augmentation’ or ‘boob job’ requires the insertion of implants. Aiming to create a natural appearance, these implants can vary in size to cater to your specific wants and needs. There are several different choices to make and therefore discuss with your surgeon before Breast Enlargement surgery, such as the type of implant, size, style, position, incision location and more. Dr Damon Thomas will give you experienced advice to help you make an informed decision.

Who seeks a Breast Enlargement?

A Breast Enlargement is best suited to women with a smaller bust. Whether you feel that your breasts are not in proportion to the rest of your figure or have lost fullness due to weight loss or breastfeeding, Breast Enlargement can help you reach your aesthetic goals.

BREAST REDUCTION:

Just as there are women who feel uncomfortable about the petite nature of their breasts, there are women on the other end of the spectrum who feel their breasts are too large. It isn’t purely a cosmetic choice, either. Women with fuller busts can experience back and neck pain, joint discomfort and skin irritation under the breasts.

The process of a breast reduction consists of the removal of excess tissue and fat from the area and reshaping the breasts to suit the rest of the frame, to be proportionate to the body. If you find that bra straps give you pain on the shoulders and you now are suffering from poor posture due to the size of your breasts, this could be a viable option for you.

Is there a long recovery?

You may be required to spend a couple of nights in hospital post-surgery. The most intense period of the recovery process is the first couple of weeks, when you will have the most swelling and discomfort. You may need to wear special surgical garments during this time to support your breasts. Most people can resume their normal routine (barring strenuous exercise) in two to three weeks.

BREAST LIFT:

A Breast Lift is another procedure for women who feel that age or life’s milestones have caused their breasts to sag. The main difference between a Breast Enlargement and a Breast Lift is that no implants are involved in a lift procedure. The surgery will involve tightening and repositioning of the breasts and areola, restoring a more youthful appearance with the natural breast tissue.

How do I know whether to get a Breast Lift or a Breast Enlargement?

If you are concerned with the size of your breasts because you feel they are too small, then a Breast Enlargement is the way to go. However, if you are happy with the size of your breasts but dissatisfied with the position, then a Breast Lift would be a suitable option for you. Both options have you back on your feet in a couple of weeks.

BREAST RECONSTRUCTION:

A procedure that occurs post-cancer surgery, Breast Reconstruction aims to restore the breasts’ shape and size following lumpectomy or mastectomy. Our aim is to have you looking as natural as possible after your reconstructive surgery. Each case is unique, and depending on what can be done, implants can be used to emulate the breasts’ original appearance.

Can this be done at the same time as my cancer surgery?

Whether you are having a lumpectomy or mastectomy, Breast Reconstruction can be performed while you are in hospital. Many patients opt for this as it means only one hospital stay and therefore one recovery process. Other patients, however, prefer to recover from their cancer surgery completely before undergoing a reconstruction. This gives them time to adjust, assess their options and heal before making the decision. Each option is fine and completely up to personal preference.

BREAST REVISION:

Breast revision is the removal and replacement of breast implants. This can occur for a variety of reasons. Implants are not designed to last forever, and although with some patients they may, others will need them replaced at least once in their lifetime. Other situations may occur where the patient is not happy with their enlargement, the implant has a complication or the patient simply wants to change the size of the implants. No matter the reason, revision surgery is normal.

Why choose Dr Damon Thomas for your revision surgery?

Many people may not realise, but Breast Revision surgery is more complicated than Breast Enlargement surgery, and it is nice to know that you will be in the care of an experienced plastic surgeon during the entirety of the procedure. Whether or not you have chosen a great surgeon to perform your initial enlargement procedure, be very wary of who you choose for your revision. Dr Damon Thomas has performed many breast procedures and can offer his caring, professional opinion to help you decide which breast procedure is for you.

MAKING AN INFORMED DECISION

Our website is intended to provide general information about cosmetic breast surgery and should not be used as a substitute for personalised medical advice. It is important to consult with a qualified plastic surgeon to determine if breast enhancement is right for you. The following considerations should be part of your decision-making process.

Risks

All surgical procedures carry risk. The potential risks and complications associated with breast surgery include, but are not limited to, bleeding, infection, changes in nipple or breast sensation, asymmetry, poor scarring and the need for additional surgery. It is important to understand the risks involved and weigh up the benefits and drawbacks of surgery before undergoing a breast enhancement procedure.

Recovery

Recovery time after breast surgery may vary depending on the individual, the extent of the procedure, and the technique used. In general, patients should be prepared to experience some discomfort, swelling, and bruising after surgery. Patients must also be prepared to take time off work and other activities (including exercise) and follow Dr Thomas’ post-operative instructions to promote proper healing and minimise the risk of complications.

Results

Individual results may vary depending on a number of factors, including the patient’s natural breast tissue and the surgical technique employed. It is critical to have realistic expectations about the outcome of breast enhancement surgery and understand that each patient’s outcome will be unique. It is also important to know that cosmetic breast surgery may require revision and cannot stop the ageing process.
